Fish are biting on Bartlett Lake! We landed some real beauties on 9/16/22. Drop-shotting proved to be the highest producing pattern for the day. Working the bait slow, presented the bait for the most bites. Morning Dawn/purple hues were best with a chartreuse chaser. 25-35’ were the best depths focusing on steep breaks and ledges. Shad on the locator was important. Get out and FISH! Our first @avondaleparksandrec Family Fishing Lessons class of 2022 happened today at Festival Fields Park in Avondale, Arizona. Abe with @bassfinger_fishing_club is my partner and fellow instructor helping me build our fishing education and programming within the city of Avondale. He and I are honored to volunteer our time sharing our love and passion for the sport of fishing with city residents and beyond. Our turnout today was excellent proving there is interest and excitement propelling our programs in the right direction. Proof is there with our registered attendees and additional participants showing up to have fun and learn today. We now have three parks: Festival Fields, Friendship and now our new Alamar Park offering a variety of activities with urban fishing lakes being a wonderful feature. We have two additional classes scheduled for October 15th at Friendship Park and November 5th @ Alamar Park. 6/9/22 Delavan Lake: My annual outing was a blast as usual with my buddy Jeremy Brock catching up and doing a little fishing. Missing our buddy @cchappell! Bumming! Lost my good luck @plinefishing hat on Delavan Lake. A gust of wind caught it and she sank out of sight quickly. The second hat I’ve donated to the lake. I lost my favorite @leinenkugels hat in 2008 in almost the same spot off of Assembly Park. Time to order a couple more @plinefishing hats for good measure!

6/10/22 Delavan Lake: We had a fun morning on my home body of water. Caught a mixed bag of bluegill, perch, crappie, largemouth, smallmouth and walleye. Had quite a few northern pike chasing in 8-9” bluegill. No luck casting or clicker set-up soaking suckers. The sky opened up with pouring rain about 10:00 am (around 3 hours early than predicted). We muscled out a couple more hours until we were fully soaked. Of course the rain gear was left behind expecting to be off the water long before the rain started. Lots of largemouth bedded up, pre-spawn bluegill and post-spawn crappie. Seems like everything is about two weeks behind here. 64-66° water today. . . @kalins_fishing @berkleyfishing @eagleclawfishing @plinefishing @lakeside_bait_delavan

My volunteer hours are stacking up quickly for 2022. Volunteered 5/7/22 at the @azgfd Mesa Regional Office helping Amy unbox and assemble (175) @zebcofishing rod and reel setups. The two of us managed to fully rig (95) set ups for the upcoming Green Valley Festival in @adventurepayson next weekend May 14, 2022. She and the AZ Game and Fish crew have (80) left to rig. A second volunteer day has been planned for May 10th to finish rigging the remaining setups. I’ll be volunteering at the festival as well manning the fishing booth repairing rod/reel setups and mentoring anglers for the day. Honored to be part of a great organization as a volunteer and educator. Sportsman's Warehouse here in Avondale, AZ pulled out the stops donating equipment to help grow our inventory of fishing rods & reels and enough terminal tackle to get some great programming started. We went from 20 rod/reel setups needing TLC to 42 setups ready to go. Having quality, functional and dependable equipment not only will keep us up and running; but will also provide an enjoyable experience for our city residents and program participants taking part in our fishing activities. Our Family Campout is happening Saturday 4/23-4/24 including fishing from 4-7 pm. Our first instructional fishing 101 will be coming the end of May. Stay tuned. Had a great day on Roosevelt Lake as a boat captain for the Phoenix Junior Bassmasters Championship Tournament on Sunday 4/3/22. Jesse and Nicholas worked through the grind of a cool morning finding a good shallow bite as the water warmed. The two caught their 5 fish limit placing in the tournament. Such a great organization and such a blessing to volunteer and support the young anglers a feed their passion. Justin, our local fishing department manager here at the local Avondale Sportsman’s Warehouse retail store was nice enough to offer his services in “refreshing, repair and re-lining” our existing fishing rod/reel combos back to new. If any need to be replaced, our partners will get us up to (40) rod/reel combos form our (22) to help support our new fishing classes and programs ahead for 2022. Impressed with my boy….up at 3:00 am on the lake by 5:00 am. First fish by 5:15 all by himself. A real chip off the ol’ block. Lovin’ it! Mother Nature gave us the gift of cooler weather. One of the first outings on Delavan Lake last week was with my close friend Jeremy. True brothers from another mother. We were certainly cut from the same cloth. We first met working on a large project together in Milwaukee and have been friends ever since. We had an epic day targeting mainly northern pike, but managed to catch a few bass in the mix. Water temps were hovering 75-77° with the heat and humidity contributing to the climb in temp. We ran suckers on clicker set-ups in 12-22’ of water focusing on areas with steep drops from shallow to deep. We lucked out using electronics clearly marking fish half way down all the way to the bottom. Most of our fish smacked the sucker on the initial drop. Fish were certainly aggressive. We blew through (4) dozen minnows in no time! Thanks to Lakeside Bait & Tackle for the high quality bait! Keeping air on the minnows and monitoring the bait water temp was critical to keep them lively and healthy. Truly miss clouds on the horizon with intense Midwest storms in the distance. The topwater bite was slow, but the Texas Rig & Drop-Shot bite didn’t disappoint! The lack of shad in the shallows presented a good crawfish pattern bite. Texas rigged Berkley Fishing #rocketcraws YUM #critters and Zoom Bait #babybrushhogs produced well! Later on, we moved deeper finding schools of shad with big boys behind. Epic day on a lake that holds my heart here in Wisconsin. So many memories, spending so many hours living my dream guiding for nearly two decades. Sharing my passion of fishing with others has left me with some the best memories and experiences of my life to date. Spent countless hours fishing solo soul searching during some dark times in my “Happy Place” over the years. My buddy Wayne and I decided to enter the Panfish Tournament being hosted by @lakeside_bait_delavan today. A quick twilight trip on Pleasant was a blast capitalizing on the moon.?We made hay quickly catching nearly 90% of our fish casting drop-shot finesse creature baits working deep breaks. Digging through my archives, I found a “new” old Zebco “33”. I remember getting this a very long time ago for a birthday. It still had the original split ring and cable monofilament! A little before and after fixing my cargo nets on the bow. They haven’t looked this good since I bought her in ‘08. Thanks to a fellow @alumacraftboats owner in Chicago sending me some bungee cord to repair and refresh. After some cussing and temper tantrums all done and she looks good!

Great day on Roosevelt Lake! 92° air temperature, 70°+ water temps. Winds Northwest 10-15, gusty at times. A mix of pre-spawn, spawners and post-spawn fish. Nearly caught fish in every location. Had an Epic weekend catching a mixed bag. Fished Barlett and Pleasant Lake. Pleasant Lake treated me better which produced largemouth, crappie and striped bass. Water temp on both lakes averaged around 58-62° all weekend. Crappies were staging in 16-24’ of water. Caught all of the fish casting @acmetackle @kalins_fishing scrubs and lunker grubs on 1/32-1/16 oz jig heads. Largemouth were all small males caught just off the shore. Swim baits, drop-shot rigs and @coolbaitlures underspins yielded the most fish. Stripers were caught trolling in 40-75’ of water utilizing snap or keel weights pulled behind my @churchtacklecompany planer boards to get the cranks down just above the suspended bait balls of shad. #5 @berkleyfishing Flicker Shads, @rapalausa suspended Shad Raps and Husky Jerks worked well in natural colors. A slight cool down early this week will soften the bite a bit.
